Punk 1976-78, a British Library exhibition.

The show which runs from Saturday 3 December 2016 until Sunday 26 February 2017 reveals the extraordinary impact punk had on music, journalism, politics, fashion and design across the UK between 1976 and 1978.

Starring Philip Franks (Darling Buds of May) as the Narrator, alongside Liam Tamne (Phantom of the Opera, The Voice) as Frank 'n' Furter and Paul Cattermole (S Club 7) as Eddie/Dr Scott.

Houghton Feast 2017

Houghton Feast is celebrating its fiftieth anniversary this year, and celebrations have a time travelling theme reflecting the area's rich cultural heritage including one of its most historically significant residents - Bernard Gilpin.

The opening ceremony 'Houghton Feast 50 : Journey through time laser show' on Friday 6 October, will see the Mayor of Sunderland Councillor Doris MacKnight switch on the Houghton Feast lights display at 7pm.

Sunderland on Film Take 2

A new selection of archive film footage, revealing fascinating scenes form Sunderland's history.

After the success of our first Sunderland on Film screening, last October, we're pleased to announce that we've pulled together more fantastic archive footage to create Sunderland on Film Take 2.

There will be two screenings of the new film at the Quayside Exchange on Friday 30 September at 2.30pm and 6.30pm. Click on the video link below to see a teaser of the film.

Sunderland Illuminations

Bigger and brighter than ever before, Sunderland Illuminations will take place in Roker Park and along the seafront from 24 September until 5 November.

This year's event will see all of Roker Park being used for a whole host of new and exciting features, including pirates, dinosaurs and fairies, as well as old favourites including the Sunderland Tap and a Sea of Stars on the lake,.

A small entrance fee for Roker Park has also been introduced for the first time this year, with a cost of £1 for everyone (children aged 2 and under are free).
