The Active Sunderland BIG Walk

Sunday, June 30, 2019

The ever popular BIG Walk sees one important change this year - the date! Taking place on 30 June from Herrington Country Park there will be three routes to choose from.

A 3 mile family friendly walk with scavenger hunt will provide an engaging opportunity to discover more about one of the city's finest outdoor spaces. This route takes place completely within the boundaries of the park so is perfect for families, beginners or those with mobility issues.

The other two routes (7 and 11 miles) take place in the beautiful river Wear Valley behind Penshaw Monument. This area of unspoilt countryside is home to a rich mosaic of habitats and wildlife and is a fantastic place to walk, with mile upon mile of footpaths through open countryside, ancient woodland and along the banks of the river Wear.
