Houghton Feast 2018

Houghton Feast 2016
Friday, October 5, 2018 to Sunday, October 14, 2018

The year’s Houghton Feast programme of music, arts, sports, entertainment and  community events/activities includes :

Opening Ceremony– Friday 5 October, 7pm

This is the Greatest Show - the Houghton Feast Tattoo and Opening Ceremony features Houghton Pipe Band performing with dancers and Houghton Area Youth Brass Band and the new Houghton Feast Children’s Choir. The Houghton Feast illuminations will be switched on by the Right Worshipful, the Mayor of Sunderland, Councillor Lynda Scanlan. This event is not to be missed – live entertainment by the community for the community - and best of all it is free!

Community Parade – Saturday 6 October, 2pm

Come along and watch this colourful community production starring characters from The Greatest Showman plus our traditional favourites: local school children in fancy dress, the pipes and drums, classic cars, marching musical bands, Billy the Clown, Bernard Gilpin and the wild boar, the Zazz dancers and vintage steam vehicle. The procession starts at Houghton Library car park and will travel along Newbottle Street into the Broadway (where you can listen to the narration) before ending at the Dairy Lane entrance to Rectory Park.

Traditional Ox Roast -  Monday 8 October, 4pm

Fantastic firework display - on St Michael’s RC Primary School playing field 7.30pm on Monday 8 October

The must see Houghton Feast fireworks spectacular! Launched from the Durham Road playing fields but can be viewed from the surrounds including Dairy Lane and higher ground. If travelling by car, please park in an appropriate place in the town centre as there is no car parking at the launch site.

There is also a huge range of community activities taking place, with everything from heritage walks and photo exhibitions to music recitals and craft fairs. For more information on them, go to www.houghtonfeast.co.uk
