BIG dates for the running, cycling and walking diary

The BIG event dates have been announced

The dates for Sunderland’s ‘BIG’ Events are now available.

Saturday 2 May - The BIG Mini Fun Run

A fun family event, encouraging children and families who take part to run, walk or toddle their way along the one mile route around Sunderland's award winning Mowbray Park.

The run takes place from 1.30pm and is open to children aged 3 – 7 if they are accompanied by an adult, and children aged 8 – 10 who can run it by themselves.

The event is part of the ‘Run Weekend’ which incorporates the city’s half marathon and 10K runs.

Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 June – The BIG Bike Ride

With a focus on leisure, recreational and family cycling, the Sunderland BIG Bike Ride offers FOUR alternative rides, providing a route to suit all ages and abilities.

The 5 mile family ride will take place at the wonderful Herrington Country Park on Saturday 13 June, and the longer 14 mile, 20 mile and 35 mile routes will take place on Sunday 14 June, starting and finishing at St Peter’s Riverside.

14, 20 and 35 mile rides take place on the city’s expansive cycle network and some roads. Due to the varying surfaces en route, road bikes are not recommended.

Sunday 20 September - The BIG Walk

The Sunderland BIG Walk offers a wonderful way to be active with your family and friends whilst taking in some of the best scenery and historic sites the city has to offer. The walk is a fantastic, inexpensive and healthy opportunity for the people of the Sunderland to have a great day and enjoy beautiful scenery.

Two routes will once again be on offer with distances of six and 11 miles.

Over the years the number of people who have taken part in the 'BIG' participation events has risen and risen and many have taken the 'BIG' events as an opportunity to raise money for good causes. The 'BIG' events have become not just a great day but a great day to raise money for your chosen cause, whether it is a sports club, community group or charity.
