Christmas Lights in Sunderland - Oh yes it is!

Cinderella and Prince Charming join the Mayor of Sunderland, Councillor David Snowdon, in Keel Square on Thursday 21 November for the Christmas Lights Switch On.

The Mayor and Panto stars from Cinderella at the Sunderland Empire Theatre (Dec 13 – 5 Jan) are marking the city centre's festive season with the switch on.

Beginning at 6pm, and hosted by Sun FM favourites Simon Grundy and Lauren McLeish, the evening’s entertainment also include a festive school choir, music from Channy Thompson, a sparkling performance from the Spark! Drummers, and a dazzling firework display finale.

The annual Christmas Lights Switch On is part of the Christmas in Sunderland city centre programme. The programme is also seeing the Festival of Light in Mowbray Park, Keel Square Ice Rink and Hadrian’s Tipi on Crowtree Road, all opening on the same day.

The Ice Rink and Tipi open from noon and the Festival of Light from 4pm.

The Mayor of Sunderland, Councillor David Snowdon said: "Our annual Christmas Lights Switch On is a wonderful feel-good, family event that allows the city to come together and officially start the countdown to Christmas.

"What’s more exciting this year is that there is so much to see and do in the city centre. We would encourage visitors to plan ahead so they can enjoy everything that Christmas in Sunderland has to offer."
