Competition winners have fun packed weekend in Sunderland

A packed weekend in Sunderland that included everything from karting to wildlife watching, skiing to swimming went down well with one family from Milton Keynes.

Chris De Quincey and his partner Susan and William aged 14, were the winners of the See it Do it Sunderland Big Summer Holiday competition in partnership with Visit England and Heart FM.

They were treated to two nights in the four star Sunderland Marriott on the coast at Seaburn with a full weekend of activities and free taxi travel between them courtesy of Station Taxis too.

Chris and co. started off with a fast paced karting session at Karting North East before heading to the Washington Wetland Centre for lunch and some time with the wildlife, including the otters and flamingos.

They were on top of the world that afternoon with a guided tour to the top of the National Trust’s Penshaw Monument to sample the views and learn about the history of this unique landmark. The replica Greek temple had won Chris and his family the trip after correctly identifying it as the structure that stands on top of Penshaw Hill.

Day two was filled with yet more adrenaline fuelled fun with ski instruction at Silksworth Ski Slope followed by water sports sessions at the Marine Activity Centre in Roker.

On their third and final day our intrepid family took a splash at Sunderland Aquatic Centre with its Olympic sized pool before finally finding some time to relax ahead of their return to the Midlands.

Chris told See it Do it Sunderland: “The weekend break was fantastic. We managed to squeeze in so much. The highlight for William was definitely the karting but we all had a great time.”
