Eine Kleine Nacht Mandolin Musik in Sunderland

A mandolin orchestra from Germany are playing a concert in Sunderland.

The Mülheim Mandolin Orchestra - Mülheimer Zupforchester (MZO) - play the University of Sunderland North Shore Centre on Wednesday 1 April from 7.15pm.

Several members of the orchestra are from Sunderland's twin-town of Essen.

The Sunderland concert is alongside two performances in Darlington as this is the twin-town for Mülheim, which is close to Essen in North West Germany.

City Mayor Councillor Stuart Porthouse is hosting the orchestra before their Sunderland concert and said: "I understand they're very highly regarded and they have excelled in many international and national competitions.

"I think this is something a little different for everyone to come and enjoy. I've certainly never seen a mandolin orchestra so I'm very much looking forward to it.

"I'm sure the group is going to be well-received with plenty of North East hospitality."

The MZO has toured Italy, France, Poland and Israel previously and their repertoire runs from the renaissance to the modern era with re-worked versions of pop songs and film scores.

The Mülheimer Zupforchester tour is supported by the German Foreign Office and the Goethe Institut.

Tickets are £5 and available from TicketSource, or

From the Box Office on 0191 219 3455.
