Family Theatre in Sunderland!

Family Theatre in Sunderland!

With half term upon us you might be looking for something different to do with the kids.  Have you thought about a trip to the Theatre, it doesn’t have to cost the earth, in fact it’s often cheaper that a trip to the cinema!

Arts Centre Washington has steadily being building a reputation as the place to go to for quality children’s theatre in the North East!

This February half term is no exception with the renowned M6 theatre company bringing their beautiful children’s show ‘Whatever the Weather’ to the centre on Thursday 19 February.

In a colourful weather house on a quiet wall, each day Mr Rain and Mrs Sunshine tell us if it’s going to be wet and windy or sunny and dry. The pair couldn’t be more different. Living together but always apart, day after day, month after month, year after year - but what would happen if they came alive?

Other upcoming shows include 'Chicken Licken' during the Easter Holidays Wednesday 15 April.  Enjoy food, music and puppets as Chicken Licken grows up to be the Little Red Hen and asks her friends to help her make bread, but no one wants to play! Mixed into this recipe of food, puppets and music is the story of Little Red Hen and the sly Foxy Loxy. Will she outwit him and save her stuffing?

'Rapunzel' during May Half Term holiday Thursday 28 May is the timeless story of a girl with very long hair! Told in an inventive, visual and physical style with live music and magical design, Rapunzel is a delightful production for children about the curiosity and joys of growing up, risk taking and discovering who you are.

Sunderland Stages is a project that brings quality touring theatre into venues around the city. Upcoming family shows are ‘Up in the Attic’ at The Royalty Theatre on Saturday 28 February.  For children aged 3 to 6 join three children on an unforgettable bedtime adventure: a journey through the attic at the top of an old house.

During the Easter holidays the City Library and Arts Centre welcome ‘Pop Up Flashback’ on Tuesday 7 April. For children aged 5 plus, enter an imaginative world of memories through poetry and incredible pop-up books in this funny and heart-warming adventure of complicated families and growing up.
