Half term Heritage activities for the family

To celebrate local history month in May, Sunderland Culture is inviting families to explore Sunderland’s special heritage and their own family histories this Whit Half Term. New activities will be released on their website each day:

Monday 25th May                 Family Arts Award

Start your own Discover arts award project at home. Explore art and artists and create your own art!

Tuesday 26th May                  Memory Scavenger Hunt

Collect childhood memories from your older family members on a scavenger hunt with a difference!

Wednesday 27th May    

Past and Future Heroes

Learn about some amazing Sunderland history heroes and imagine yourself as a history hero in 100 years’ time.

No Strings intergenerational activity  

Get inspired by the No Strings exhibition at National Glass Centre and create art across the generations.

Thursday 28th May               Sound and Vision

Parents and grandparents are invited to share and draw their favourite songs with the children and young people in their family.

Friday 29th May              Rebel Women Colouring Pack and Storytime 1

Discover the amazing rebel women of Sunderland who have made their mark on history and listen to bedtime story 1.

Saturday 30th May        

Andrew Tift Family Portraits

In 2018/19 artist Andrew Tift created a series of commissioned pencil portraits of residents in Washington Care Homes which are now part of the Museum collections. Try different drawing techniques to create your own family portraits.
