Hylton Castle and the First World War

Hylton Castle and the First World War

A fantastic event took place at the 14th Century Castle as part of the city’s calendar of activities to commemorate the centenary of the start of the First World War.

The fun family event marked the history of the castle as an army training camp, lots of people came along to have a go at the interactive activities that included an army drill and exercise, dressing a wound at the medical station and learning about weapons or to experience camp cooking at the real army field kitchen. A great day out was had by all!

An exciting project is underway to redevelop the historic site and the project team welcomes ideas, feedback and support from volunteers.
