Knock Knock - your library books have been delivered

Library books

Sunderland Libraries Services is once again offering a free book delivery service for Sunderland residents who are unable to access libraries due to age, illness, disability or mobility issues.

The Books at Home service was temporarily suspended due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic but is now back up and running to deliver books directly to customers.

Residents who use the Books at Home service have books specially selected for them by professional library staff, based on the customer’s own individual reading preferences.

Regular collections are then delivered straight to the customer’s door on an agreed date. Deliveries will be contactless to adhere to current social distancing guidelines.

Cabinet Member for Communities and Culture, Councillor John Kelly said: "While we had to temporarily suspend this invaluable service, we are delighted that we can now once again deliver books to residents who are unable to visit a library building.

"This service is paramount in assisting those who require help in the community, whether as a short term or long-term requirement to reduce social isolation."

Customers who currently use the service will be contacted by library staff directly to resume their deliveries.

Any new customers who wish to start using the service can send their request for Books at Home to

Sunderland Libraries Services is also looking for friendly and helpful people to help deliver the Books at Home service. Please visit and select Sunderland Library Service for more information and to complete an application form.
