Roker Cycle Hub opens at end of C2C

Cycling Family at C

Sunderland’s already extensive cycling facilities have been added to with the opening of Roker Cycle Hub.

Roker Cycle Hub allows cyclists of all ages and abilities to have the chance to pedal their way to fun and fitness by loaning out a wide range of cycles at affordable prices.

The range of bikes available for hire from the Roker Cycle Hub includes:

  • Standard bikes
  • Children’s bikes
  • Tandems
  • Trailers
  • Electric bikes
  • Electric family cargo bikes
  • Hase Pino Recumbants - specialised bikes which can be ridden by, or used as a passenger, by those with disabilities

Costs for a standard mountain bike are £3 per hour, £12 for a half day and £18 for a full day.

Tony Semley from the Roker Cycle Hub, said: “We aim to make cycling accessible for everyone in the local community by providing a supportive environment and access to a wide range of bikes.”

It is hoped in the future that the Hub will open a cycle club and run regular bicycle maintenance courses to help cyclists stay on the road.

The Hub is based at Marine Walk just a stone’s throw away from the eastern end of the ever popular Coast to Coast or C 2 C.

The C 2 C is an off road cycle route that goes from the west coast in Cumbria to the east coast, finishing in Sunderland at Roker. The end is marked on the shore by the magnificent statue ‘C’.
