An exciting new programme that brings live performances to hidden, unexpected and treasured venues across the city of Sunderland is launching a fresh Spring season of special events. Sunderland Stages offers new experiences for the residents of Sunderland to try out, bringing performances into the city for families, music lovers, theatre goers and those wanting a great night out!
From powerful performances in Theatre Ad Infinitum's Odyssey, live music from acclaimed Sunderland duo Hyde & Beast who will perform as part of the final Sunderland Stages show - Weekend Rockstars, magical children's puppet shows like Landscapes and Up in The Attic, to more unusual offerings such as Cape Wrath - an intimate story told in a 14 seater mini-bus - and even an interactive pub quiz, there's definitely something for everyone!
The range of venues has expanded this season to include Sunderland College, Sunderland City Library, The Dun Cow and a special performance on Roker Seafront, as well as shows at Arts Centre Washington, Sunderland Students Union - Bonded Warehouse and North Shore, The Royalty Theatre, Sunderland Museum & Winter Gardens and Independent.
First up in the programme was the beautiful Landscapes at Sunderland Museum & Winter Gardens, which was a complete sell out! Landscapes was performed to an audience of 25 at a time in a special performance tent where audiences met animals from around the world in a magical adventure for 3 to 11 year olds.
In February, local theatre company Open Clasp will present Jumping Puddles at The Royalty Theatre - a touching and funny story about two sisters as they reach adulthood, highlighting the issues young women experience today and directly informed by women from the North East and Liverpool.
