University trilogy by Oscar winner

University trilogy by Oscar winner

Oscar-winning film producer Lord David Puttnam is presenting a series of free lectures at the University of Sunderland over the next month, designed to inspire people to become involved in the creative industries.

Having had film success with Bugsy Malone, Midnight Express and The Killing Fields, as well as the Oscar-winning Chariots of Fire, each lecture will feature personal insights into the world of film, television and culture.

Lord Puttnam is also a former politician and was the very first Chancellor of the University of Sunderland. He remains the only British filmmaker to have run a Hollywood studio, Columbia Pictures.

The curtain raiser for the three-part series is this Friday 27 February at 11am, with the interactive lecture broadcast via satellite link to The David Puttnam Media Centre Cinema at St Peter’s Campus, from Lord Puttnam’s studio in Ireland.

Lord Puttnam will present the next lecture in person, on Tuesday 24 March, with a further online session on Friday 27 March.

All three are free and open to all, but must be booked in advance by contacting Amy Callaghan on 0191 515 2637 or amy.callaghan@sunderland.ac.uk
