In its 35th year and 25th year of sponsorship by BP the National Portrait Gallery commissioned ‘What the Artist Saw’ a documentary on the 2014 BP Portrait Awards.

The video includes interviews with the artists, the judges and members of both the National Portrait Gallery and BP and is a fascinating insight into the process of judging 2,377 portraits for inclusion into the final fifty five.

Interviews with the artists including the 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize winners provide an insight into both their artistic process, the reason for their subject choice and the emotion they feel from submitting their work to being chosen for the final fifty five to being awarded one of the coveted BP Portrait Awards.
