St Peter's Medieval Festival

Living history group Regia Anglorum will turn St Peter's Church grounds into a tented living history encampment.

See the past brought back to life, with hands on displays of clothes, crafts, cooking, armour and weapons of the medieval period.

Learn how the Anglo-Saxons lived and worked, slept and ate, watch warriors training and see them take on the Vikings in battle - at 2pm on both days.

Plus a longboat, guided tours of the 7th century church and more.

Summer Streets 2015

Thompson Park, Southwick will once again play host to Summer Streets Festival; a celebration of music in the community creatively directed by Ross Millard.

The Cultural Spring's community music festival caters for many tastes – and all ages.

Join the heroic Aladdin on a magical carpet ride this Christmas, alongside a host of panto gems including Terence Maynard (Coronation Street’s Tony Stewart) as the evil Abanazar, Alison Hammond (This Morning, Strictly Come Dancing) as the Slave of the Ring and children’s presenter Derek Moran (Channel 5’s Milkshake) as Wishee Washee, plus the mystical Genie, a beautiful Princess and not to mention a flying carpet!

Sunderland Illuminations 2017

Bigger and brighter than ever before, Sunderland Illuminations will take place in Roker Park and along the seafront from 5 October - 5 November .

Seafront lights and activities on Cliffe Park and Bede’s Cross will run from from Thursday 5 October until Sunday 5 November, 5-10pm each day.

Roker Park will be transformed into a Festival of Light, with a Disney theme.  The Park will be open every Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, from 5 October to 5 November plus every night at half term, from 5pm – 10pm each night.  Last entry into Roker Park will be 9.00pm.

BP Portrait Award 2017

The BP Portrait Award 2017  showcases outstanding and innovative new portraits from around the world. From informal and personal studies of friends and family to revealing images of famous faces, the exhibition features a variety of styles and approaches to the contemporary painted portrait.

The works on display include the winner of the £30,000 first prize, Breech! by Benjamin Sullivan.  

This is an absolute must see exhibition.

Wicked - Sunderland Empire
