Oh we do like to be beside the seaside

Oh we do like to be beside the seaside

What better way to spend the summer than by the sea?

We can’t promise that the sun will shine, but family fun is guaranteed. With a beautiful sandy beach, ideal for sandcastle building and splodging plus plenty of rockpools to explore and shells to collect, it’s hard to beat a day by our seaside.

And then there’s all the fantastic events taking place around the coastline, from beach schools every day of the holidays to the huge Sunderland International Airshow, prepare to be amazed. When the events and attractions have exhausted you, there’s plenty of places for a pit-stop, whether you want a slap up meal, or to sit on the promenade with some fish and chips and watch the world go by. Keep up to date with what’s happening when:

14-17 July, Plays in the Park, Romeo and Juliet, in Roker Park

21 July - 2 September, Creative Craft Sessions at National Glass Centre

Every weekday from Thursday, July 21 - Friday, September 2, Beach School

22-24 July, Sunderland International Airshow

Sunday 31 July, RNLI Harbour Day

Selected Saturdays, Roker and Seaburn Family fun days

Wednesday 10 August, Active Sunderland Beach Festival

Monday 29 August, Historic Vehicle Rally

24 September - 5 November, Sunderland Illuminations

And if you fancy making a night, or a weekend or a week of it, we've got plenty of places to stay! Click on an event listing above and there's details of where to stay nearby, or visit our Where to Stay section for full details of all our accomodation.

Use our interactive map to find places to park, eat and stay while you're here and if you've never been to Sunderland before, getting here and getting around is easier.
