Join the society for a series of recitals by proffessional classical pianists at the Sunderland Museum and Winter Gardens. Recitals for 2019 include:

Florian Mitrea

Tuesday 12th February 2019 at 7.15pm

Described by Martha Argerich as 'an outstanding young pianist', British-Romanian pianist Florian was a double-laureate at the 2017 Scottish, 2017 Saint Priest, 2015 Hamamatsu and 2014 ARD Munich International Piano competitions.  He has performed at King's Palace, St. Martin in the Fields and St. John Smith Square, and abroad in Germany, Poland, Romania, Japan and South Korea.  Reviewers have described Florians playing as having 'stupendous virtuosity' (Suddeuutsche Zeitung 2017), 'precision throughout' (The Herald 2017) and presenting 'a mixture of phenomenal technique and ravashing musical intelligence' (The Cambridge Independant 2018).

Beethoven - Sonata in C major Op.53 "Waldstein"

Ashley Fripp

Tuesday 12th March 2019 at 7.15pm

Ashley has performed extensively as recitalist, chamber musician and concerto soloist throughout the world in many of its most prestigious concert halls, such as Carnegie Hall and the Royal Festival Hall.  He has won prizes at more than a dozen national and international competitions, including the coveted Gold medal from the Guildhall School of Music & Drama and the Leeds International Piano Competition.  Frequent on broadcasting networks, Ashley has appeared on BBC TV and radio as well as throughout Europe.  He has worked with many leading conductors.  He studied at the Guildhall School with Ronan O'Hara where he is undertaking doctoral studies into the music of Thomas Ades.

Chopin - Scherzo Mo.4 in E major, Op.54

 

Valentin Schiedermair

Tuesday 9th April 2019 at 7.15pm

Valentin, who made his debut at a sold-out Berlin Philharmonic Hall, learned from some of the best and has been developing his unique blend of virtuosity and insight in concerts, recitals and orchestral performances for more than 30 years.  Since his first radio recording aged 16 Schiedermair has developed a large repertoir and his concert career has taken him all over the world.  He is a frequent guest at International festivals and has given live and recorded recitals for radio.  This will be his third visit to Sunderland.

Tickets will be available at the door before each recital.  Single tickets £12.50 (£6.00 for students over 16 and those claiming unemployment benefit), accompanied children free.
