Walking

Dog walking in nature reserve

A leisurely stroll, a brisk walk, a ramble or a group hike, there are lots of ways to go walking in Sunderland, with a compact and accessible city centre, acres of parks and green spaces and a beautiful coastline all within easy reach.

All you need is some comfortable shoes, and the rest is up to you. Go alone and enjoy some peace and tranquility, take the dog or the kids for a scramble along the beach or get a group together for some fresh air and fun.

As well as walking where you want, when you want, we've got plenty of programmes to get involved in too.

For information on our walking programmes, wellness walks and Nordic walking click here.

Sunderland City Council's Wellness Service are looking for people who are interested in becoming Volunteer Walk Leaders, to deliver and expand the current Wellness Summer Walking Programme and the number of weekly walks offered as part of the programme. If you're interested, click here.
