Nightlife

Sunderland is a city that knows how to enjoy itself, and with an exciting choice of bars, pubs and clubs to suit every taste and style, there's no shortage of places to have a good time. The city's vibrant underground music scene continues to grow and is well worth exploring with numerous venues playing host to new and national talent.

Port of Call is located in the heart of the city centre and offers three floors of hearty meat, stunning seafood and over 40 different rums. Using locally sourced beef and seafood and with its interior design playing homage to Sunderland's shipbuilding heritage, Port of Call is the place to go for...
Revolution is close to the Empire Theatre and serves food daily, including pizzas and sharing platters, great for sharing with friends. Cocktails are the speciality at Revolution where you can choose from a large selection.  VIP nights and private parties can also be booked at this trendy venue.
Each night is different at Ruba; why not try teapot Tuesday, student Wednesday, karaoke rock nights on Thursday and live music on Friday and Saturday. Includes a beer terrace and two floors of fun!
A new addition to the Sunniside bars, Sam's Bar is tucked away down the stairs of the beautiful old Maritime building. Large couches are in snugs on either side of the bar which sells a range of lagers, wines and spirits.
A friendly city centre pub that serves a varied array of beers, both on draught and in bottles. Look out for live music gigs, from regular and new local bands, some come with a small charge at the door. Check out their Facebook page for news and gigs.
Reasonably priced food and drink and a large dancefloor in the middle of the ground floor ensures that The Cooper Rose is one of the busiest late bars/clubs in Sunderland.  A quieter bar area is located upstairs for those who want to catch up with friends or for those who want to watch those...

Housed in a Grade II listed building which dates back to 1885, The Isis is a real ale drinkers dream pub. Perhaps Sunderland's most prominent landmark is Penshaw Monument. It was built in 1844 in honour of the first Earl of Durham, John George Lambton. Penshaw was modelled on Theseion, the Temple of Thesus in Athens.
