Christmas in Sunderland 21/11/2019 to 05/01/2020

Community Light Sculpture

The first in our line up of activity announcements is this amazing community sculpture project. Working with artist Jayne Johnson we are aiming to create a snowman family – creating a series of snowmen (and snow women!) using chicken wire and tissue paper, and lights.

Once finished the completed snow people will form part of the City’s Festival of Light celebrations – being put on proud display at Sunderland Museum for the thousands of Festival visitors to admire throughout the festival.

We want to work with as many people from across the community as possible to create these sculptural pieces. Sessions are free to participate in, and while you’re at the session you’ll learn some ‘cool’ (see what we did there?) hints and tips along the way to be able to have a go at creating your very own chicken wire and tissue snowman at home! Who needs snow this year when you can create beautiful sculptures with simple materials like chicken wire, tissue paper and glue!

Who can take part, and when?

These sessions are suitable for all ages and are completely FREE. Sessions will be delivered from MBC HQ, 31 Norfolk St, Sunderland, SR1 1EE on the following dates:

Thursday, November 7th 12pm – 3pm

Thursday, November 7th 4.30pm – 7.30pm

Monday, November 11th 3pm – 6pm

Thursday, November 14th 1pm – 4pm

Thursday, November 14th 6pm – 9pm

Friday, November 15th 2pm – 5pm

How do I book?
Easy! Send us a direct message starting with the word SNOW, and include the date you want to come along, and how many people you want to book for. We will confirm with you that you have secured a place and we will see you on your chosen session!
