Christmas in Sunderland 21/11/2019 to 05/01/2020

Handmade Christmas Tree Blacksmithing Workshops

Brand new to our line up of fab festive blacksmithing activities is our hand made blacksmithed Christmas tree decoration workshop. With thanks to support from Sunderland City Council Events Team as part of the City’s Festival of Light celebrations we are able to offer this blacksmithing activity for only £10.

Join our in-house blacksmith Darren to learn how to create a beautiful handmade, hand forged tree decoration from a solid bar of steel. You’ll heat your steel in the roaring fire of the forge, hammering and notching it into shape using traditional anvil, hammer and tongs. Darren will be on hand throughout the session to lend guidance and help, and by the end of the session you’ll have your very own handmade steel Christmas tree, forged and created in the fires of our city centre smithy to take home with you. Dress your Christmas tree in style this festive season with a handmade tree decoration and a great story to tell about how you created it!

As a guide we recommend it will take you around 45 – 60 minutes to create your piece of work. Each session is 3hours long, so you can arrive at any time within that session to create your piece of work. Check out the session times below and when you send us your booking, remember to tell what time you’d like to arrive between the times listed. We are holding sessions on:

Saturday, 16th November between 1pm and 4pm

Monday, 25th November between 6pm and 9pm

Tuesday, 26th November between 6pm and 9pm

Thursday, 28th November between 6pm and 9pm

Sounds great – how do I book?

send MBC Arts and Wellbeing a direct message starting with the word ANVIL. Remember to include a contact telephone number, the date and time you’d like to book, and how many places. We will call you back to take your payment securely over the phone and to confirm your place.
